Greenwood District (Black Wall Street)

Tulsa neighborhood that was the country's most prosperous Black business district before the 1921 massacre destroyed it.

The 35-block district was burned by white mobs from May 31 to June 1, 1921, killing as many as 300 Black residents and destroying 1,200 homes and 191 businesses. The Greenwood Rising history center opened in 2021 on the centennial.
