International African American Museum
Charleston museum opened in 2023 on the site of Gadsden's Wharf, where nearly half of all enslaved Africans entered the United States.

Designed by Henry N. Cobb and Pei Cobb Freed. The building hovers above the wharf so visitors walk over the sacred ground rather than on it. The Center for Family History helps Black Americans trace lineages back through plantation records.
