Two square miles north of downtown. From the 1890s through the 1950s, Jackson Ward housed the country's densest concentration of Black-owned banks, newspapers, and theaters. The Hippodrome Theater hosted Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, and Cab Calloway.
