Born 1892 in Atlanta, Texas. After being turned away by every American flight school, she learned French, sailed to Paris, and earned her license from the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale in 1921. She died in a 1926 air show crash but inspired generations of Black aviators including the Tuskegee Airmen.
