Diane Nash

Nashville student-movement leader who organized the lunch-counter sit-ins and the Freedom Rides.

Born 1938 in Chicago. As a Fisk University student in 1960 she co-led the sit-in movement; she went on to direct SNCC's voter-registration work in Mississippi and Alabama. Awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Obama in 2022.
