Born in Attapulgus, Georgia in 1926. A World War II Purple Heart recipient, Williams ran the SCLC's direct-action campaigns from St. Augustine to Memphis and founded the Atlanta charity Hosea Feed the Hungry, still serving holiday meals decades later.
