Born in Troy, Alabama in 1940. Lewis was one of the original 13 Freedom Riders, organized the lunch-counter sit-ins in Nashville, and was the youngest speaker at the 1963 March on Washington. Represented Georgia's 5th district from 1987 until his death in 2020.
