Vote with Confidence in the South: A State-by-State Voter Guide

ID requirements, registration deadlines, and absentee rules for Southern states.

Georgia

Voter ID required (driver's license or state ID). Register at least 29 days before any election at registertovote.sos.ga.gov. Absentee ballot must be requested at least 11 days before election day. Track your ballot at the Georgia Secretary of State My Voter Page.

Alabama

Photo ID required. Register 14 days before. Absentee voting requires a stated reason (work, disability, etc.). The League of Women Voters of Alabama runs a hotline at 855-447-7253 to help with questions.

Mississippi

Photo ID required. Register 30 days before. No no-excuse absentee voting; you must qualify. In-person absentee voting opens 45 days before election day at your circuit clerk's office.

North Carolina

Photo ID required. Same-day registration is allowed during the 17-day early voting window. Track absentee ballots at votercheck.ncsbe.gov.
