Quinta Brunson is bringing a fresh cultural perspective to one of animation’s most iconic characters. The “Abbott Elementary” creator and Emmy-winning actress is set to develop and star in a new Betty Boop feature film, reimagining the nearly 100-year-old character through a modern lens that celebrates creativity, identity, and timeless storytelling.
Partnering with Fleischer Studios and Mark Fleischer, the grandson of Betty Boop creator Max Fleischer, Brunson’s vision will explore the deeper story behind Betty Boop’s rise to fame and the relationship between creator and creation. The project is already drawing comparisons to the cultural impact of “Barbie,” with Brunson positioned to bring new energy, diversity, and representation to a legendary character that has influenced fashion, music, and pop culture for generations.
For many, the announcement represents another major moment for Black creators continuing to reshape and elevate classic entertainment properties while bringing their own voice, style, and perspective to the forefront.
